One of the main things we explore in the Akasha app is the different ways we can experience Love in our lives: Hurt Love, Self-Love, Gratitude, Compassion, Friendship, Romance and Passion for Life. These seven aspects of love represent all the different ways we can give, receive, express and be in love with all kinds of people: friends, family, strangers, lovers, dimensions of ourselves and even the world as a whole.
Normally when we think of love, we limit love to the relationship between two people in a sexual relationship. And while some long-term relationships reveal to us magnificent depths of love we could have never ever imagined without them, love can’t be limited to a single expression or manifestation in the world. As the Fire meditations in Akasha teach, Love is all-pervasive. Your relationship to love in all of its manifestations have to be healthy for any single expression of a loving relationship to be whole. This is the wisdom behind the old adage, “You have to love yourself to truly love another.”
Love is unlimited. It’s sewn into the very fabric of existence. That’s why it seems to defy definition and explanation. It’s everywhere and yet we take it for granted, so most of us are blind to the fact that Love leaves its traces all around us, in every moment.
Yes, it’s an amazing feeling to spend Valentine’s Day with a partner who loves you, to share a delicious meal, to enjoy a delightful time, to spend intimate moments together. But imagine the depths of joy you could access if you also really and truly felt just how amazing it is that the wind dances on your face, that the candlelight in the restaurant makes you warm and fuzzy on the inside, that the colors of your lover’s shirt made your mind feel nice and calm, that the soft mattress underneath you as you sleep embraces you and holds you like a hug. And the subtle and soothing movements of your breath in and out of your body is the greatest magic of all.
Don’t let popular culture and ads convince you that the only way to feel love is through flowers, chocolates, perfumes, being on a yacht with a gorgeous lover, taking trips to islands or sharing a popcorn at the movies. Love can be in all these things too, but it is also so far beyond these things. If you open your heart and bypass the judgments of your mind, you can fall in love with the whole of your life and embark on a beautiful journey to a state of free-flowing love that can never be contained. This state of love can help you unlock a reservoir of joy, peace and contentment in every moment regardless of circumstance. You can be in love with the very experience of being alive. And all you have to do to start living this way is to look around and realize how much you’ve been taking for granted.
The greatest love you will ever experience is the gift of love in everything. This form of limitless love enhances your relationships, helps you recognize the beauty of your own being and allows you to finally receive all of life without the negative filtering of your mind. Suddenly, that bouquet of roses you get on Valentine’s Day will feel like more than just twelve flowers someone bought you—it will be the most intimate, loving experience of life itself.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
